The Horror Effects Trend

The very last game I played before staring my Programming design courses was quite an inspiration.

It was a Pixel art indie title released by a single publisher for a solo company,

title No-Eye Soft.

It can be found on https://noeye-soft.itch.io/no-skin

Afterwards, i continued to put in 8 hour days working on sound effects generation.

The effort of finding the right sound, listening to it, and labeling it provided me

some creative output and i would be lying if i said i did not receive any enjoyment from the work.

The process of identifying the right sound effects would, at times, have the use of it jump out at me immediately upon hearing it.

Other times i would, admittedly somewhat stubbornly,  listen to a sound on loop for 10 or 20 times before coming up with what it could be.

There were plenty of times that happened when i would have to swallow my pride and allow the sounds to win,

Saying "This one here, this got away from me".

During this time, even if recording with a specific theme in mind, i would find the odd sound that just wouldn't fit.

Leading to the creation of a category system of filing with several Miscellaneous-esque titles.

It was then that i came across another title, with a detective novel plot, and several very unique character designs that i had a dream.

That dream saw me awaken at 430 am and i was resolute to compile my extra sounds into a holloween themed spooky sounds folder.

Trying to find ideas for, much less the actual sounds, that fit the theme of "Creepy" was a far greater challange than any other.

Other folder like my "Sounds of War" folder were easy enough, to gain recordings of explosions and handguns, then perhaps some objects being fired upon....

Well, it was not until 5pm that i had a sizable sample of about a 100 sounds, till i was ready to consider releasing the project.

As always, even if looking for horror sounds, maybe every 5th sound would fall under the objects or people vocals/sounds category and steadily grow those folders. Which is how unusual themed folders get started in  the first place. One day i would realize my folder of elemental sounds has reached 50 sounds (Sounds of flames, rain, rivers, landslides, etc), at which point the job became not creating an asset pack but simply finishing one.

So finally, upon release, i went back to the reply i got from the developer of the game ,

worth checking out if only for the unique characters,

and let them  know while No-skin-man gave me the idea,

their game cinched it. Of course i proposed giving them a free copy of the sound pack to use in updates

or in future releases, as a thank you.

I sincerely hope they make lots of money.
